Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll (born 2 February 1977) is a Colombian singer-songwriter. She has had a significant impact on the musical landscape of Latin America and has been credited with popularizing Hispanophone music on a global level. The recipient of various accolades, she has won four Grammy Awards and fifteen Latin Grammy Awards, including three Song of the Year wins.

Shakira made her recording debut with Sony Music Colombia at the age of 14. Following the commercial failure of her first two albums, Magia (1991) and Peligro (1993), she rose to prominence with the next two, Pies Descalzos (1995) and DΓ³nde EstΓ‘n los Ladrones? (1998). Shakira entered the English-language market with her fifth album, Laundry Service (2001), which sold over 13 million copies worldwide, becoming the best-selling album of all time by a female Latin artist. Her success was further solidified with the Spanish-language albums FijaciΓ³n Oral, Vol. 1 (2005), Sale el Sol (2010), El Dorado (2017), and Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (2024), all of which topped the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart, making her the first woman with number-one albums across four different decades. Her English-language albums Oral Fixation, Vol. 2 (2005), She Wolf (2009), and Shakira (2014) received platinum certifications in various countries worldwide.

Early life: ✨πŸ’ƒπŸ’–✝️πŸ’–πŸ’ƒ✨

Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born on 2 February 1977 in Barranquilla, Colombia. Her name means "thankful" in Arabic. She is the only child of William Mebarak Chadid and Nidia Ripoll Torrado. She is of Spanish and Lebanese descent. Her father William was born in New York City to a family from Lebanon. When he was five, his family moved to Colombia. Her mother's side has two Spanish surnames, Ripoll and Torrado, the former of which is Catalan and originates from four brothers who immigrated from Catalonia to coastal Colombia in the 19th century. She has also stated that she has distant Italian roots through an ancestor with the surname "Pisciotti". She was raised Catholic and attended Catholic schools. She has eight older half-siblings from her father's previous marriage. Shakira spent much of her youth in Barranquilla, a city located on the northern Caribbean coast of Colombia.

Shakira wrote her first poem, titled "La rosa de cristal" ('The Crystal Rose'), when she was only four years old. As she was growing up, she was fascinated watching her father writing stories on a typewriter, and asked for one as a Christmas gift. She got that typewriter at age seven, and has continued writing poetry since then. These poems eventually evolved into songs. When Shakira was two years old, her older half-brother was killed, at the age of nineteen, in a motorcycle accident; six years later, at age eight, Shakira wrote her first song, titled "Tus gafas oscuras" ('Your dark glasses'), which was inspired by her father, who for years wore dark glasses to hide his grief.[18]

When Shakira was four, her father took her to a local Middle Eastern restaurant, where Shakira first heard the doumbek, a traditional drum used in Middle-Eastern music and which typically accompanied belly dancing.[19] She started dancing on the table, and the experience made her realize that she wanted to be a performer. She enjoyed singing for schoolmates and teachers (and even the nuns) at her Catholic school, but in second grade, she was rejected for the school choir because her vibrato was too strong. The music teacher told her that she sounded "like a goat". At school, she was often sent out of the class because of her hyperactivity. She says she had also been known as "the belly dancer girl", as she would demonstrate every Friday at school a number she had learned. "That's how I discovered my passion for live performance," she says. To instill gratitude in Shakira for her upbringing, her father took her to a local park to see orphans who lived there. The images stayed with her, and she said to herself: "One day I'm going to help these kids when I become a famous artist."

My Tribute to Shakira: ✨πŸ’ƒπŸ’–✝️πŸ’–πŸ’ƒ✨

I don't really remember when I heard Shakira first on MTV or TV, I just remember that the songs that I heard from her I really liked a lot! I myself grew up on Tenerife, the Canary Islands, the first 9 years of my life, and I know how to speak Spanish fluently. My first word at age three was actually in Spanish! I saw an aeroplane in the sky and pointed towards it and told my mother: "avion". My mother told me that I was a quiet type of a toddler, and that I dreamt a lot but always observed my surroundings. I always felt drawn to Spanish music because of my history in Tenerife with the other canarios and playeros! I remember listening to latin american music, and I must say that I simply loved the vibes and ambience the latin american songs gave me! Like the Gipsy Kings and Buena Vista Social Club just to name a few.

The song that I share here on my blog is one of my favorite songs of Shakira! La Tortura, or in English "The Torture"! It is a song about a heart break, where Shakira sings about losing a lover or boyfriend. She sings that it hurts so much to lose him that it feels like torture! That I do not demand that every friday is a party or that every day should be sunny! She keeps singing this with such a wonderful voice and I find it one of her best songs even though it is about losing someone you truly love! Shakira is singing about her own experiences with love! You cannot sing about something like this, knowing how it truly feels without having experienced it first hand!

I just arrived in the Dominican Republic a couple of days ago and I talked to our Taxi driver about famous people and particularly about Shakira. I told him that I read that she was in the hospital in Chile because she felt ill and could no longer perform at the concert where she was going to sing. And I told the driver: you know, all these super stars, singers, actors, performers and so on, aren't really free! They have contracts with the largest music or movie companies in the world and if they do not comply with their contractual agreements they are liable for breaching the contract agreements which could result in millions of dollars lost. At the same time I told him that women like Shakira, can never really lead a normal life because of their fame! Yes, they have millions of dollars, and have large villas or luxory apartments and can buy the best food, the best medical care, the best cars, but they can never leave their homes without bodyguards and real protection. It is like Shakira and all these other super stars live in golden cages and are only allowed out sometimes to celebrate their own achievements and fame. And I told the driver, she is actually not free! She can never meet a man the normal way like non famous people do in real life. Normal men without so much influence can never approach a woman like Shakira. This is explained really well in the movie "Notting Hill" that I watched on the plane while flying towards Santo Domingo over the Atlantic Ocean. Yes, I must agree with the movie, it is not impossible but really difficult! Singers like Shakira have to meet people who are in their "fame class" like other famous male singers or famous male actors. I told the taxi driver if I were to date Shakira, an unfamous guy like me there would be an outcry from the media and most likely from all the men worldwide! I told the driver: Shakira con un alemΓ‘n??? Con un hombre que no tiene un verdadero trabajo? My mother even said then: they would most likely try to kill you (me)!

It is a fact though, that famous people are naturally or better yet artificially isolated because of their fame! This reduces the amount of potential partners down to a minimum of other famous men or famous women (for famous men). They are unreachable for normal humans on Earth, that is why the are called "Stars" in the first place, because they are unreachable!

For me all all these stars like Shakira gave me great vibes, energy and motivated me to keep going! I feel sometimes that these stars are closer to me, than my real life contacts or online contacts! In a sense I feel their music and lyrics and emotions more than any loose friends that I might have worldwide! Many of these singers and actors gave me more strength to keep going than most of my "digital friends" online! My personal battle in the spiritual realms was truly horrible, and I cannot even write down these horrific episodes and or dreams that I have because they are truly horrible, like really bad and horrific war stories, that you cannot share because you do not want to damage the ones that might read your story! Sometimes even the actors of the series and movies that I write about in my blog are really alive somehow for me, and I consider them more my "friends" than any real life contacts (apart from my mother). So in this respect Shakira, I want to thank you for your great songs and music! You inspired and uplifted hundreds of millions of people worldwide! In this horrible and dark age, great music is like the antidote to the horrific news we hear everyday worldwide! These songs and music helps us and makes us feel good, stronger and more willing to keep pushing foward! I told my taxi driver today: life is like a battle! (la vida es como una lucha!) We have to keep marching forward, even if we go down, we have to keep standing up over and over again until we reach our goal! What that goal is, is different for all people worldwide! My taxi driver answered: I thank God everyday that I have a family, that I have a roof over my head, that I have good health and that I have good food! Fact is though that there are many wicked people out there that would love to see you crash and burn! Many so called friends, are not real friends. And finding true friendship is rare, and finding true love is even rarer! Most people just want to use you for their own personal pleasure and then discard you the very next day! I've had numerous good and nice conversations with my taxi driver in Croatia. With some few exceptions most conversations there were not really good or that interesting. Most men that I meet envy me for my looks and intelligence. But they don't know my story! They simply assume that because I look so good, that I have had multiple hot girlfriends over the years. The fact is though, that because of my knowledge, my high intelligence that I have become very isolated as well. I can only talk to my mother about nearly everything on the so called truth. All others, I can only talk within their own mindset and knowledge framework. Sometimes I can chat with others who know the truth online, but this is virtual! It does not compare to real life conversations! So in essence I am very isolated.

But this blog post is about Shakira! All I can tell you (if you ever read this Shakira), never give up! Keep marching forward! Your voice is a gift from Dios! And you are using it to uplift the entire world! Who knows one day we might have a drink and talk about these subjects (if you want to that is). And I am sure that one day the whole world will know the truth about everything! I pray that you stay safe and sound wherever you may go Shakira! And that you too make it healthy into the New Golden Age of Peace and Freedom! Amen! ✨πŸ’ƒπŸ’–✝️πŸ’–πŸ’ƒ✨
